Beaver Pond (Chilson Beach)

Staff will be checking ID's at the entrance to enforce Franklin residents only.
We will mail a laminated beach pass to all residents who register.

Chilson Beach Rules: Chilson Beach will open for the season on Saturday, June ,15 2024 and will close for the season on Sunday, August 18, 2024.  Restrooms will be open everyday and will be cleaned Monday through Friday for the duration of the summer season.  Water testing will begin on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.  All results will be posted as we receive them back from our lab.  Water testing is administered by the Board of Health and samples are sent to G & L Laboratories.  For more information about Mass.gov bathing beach standards, please visit:  105 CMR Bathing Beach.  For more information about water testing, please visit the Health Department page

2024 Update:   Chilson Beach will have a self service kayak rental kiosk.  Residents can rent up to 4 kayaks by scanning a QR code.  Kayaks, life jackets and paddles are available in the kiosk for $25 for 2 hours. 

OPENING DAY:  The beach will officially be open on Saturday, June 15.  There are no lifeguards on duty at Chilson Beach, and residents can swim at your own risk.  We will have gateguards on duty to check residency status.  Chilson Beach is for residents only.  Every Wednesday morning throughout the summer, we perform testing of the water for E-coli, and the results are available below.  We are using G & L Laboratories and results will be posted within 48 hours.  If you have any questions regarding Chilson Beach, please do not hesitate to contact the Recreation Department at 508-613-1666.

Beaver Pond/Chilson Beach was selected as a SMILE Mass Floating Beach Chair Award recipient  
"SMILE Mass president Lotte Diomede and the team at SMILE Mass are pleased to announce that Beaver Pond/Chilson Beach, Franklin, MA, has been selected as a SMILE Mass Floating Beach Chair Award recipient. Our group of impartial judges felt your application was thorough, well written, and conveyed a true understanding of the importance of inclusion and accessibility for the disabled population in our Community. We are privileged to award your beach with a chair for the upcoming season. We have ordered your chair and are expecting delivery during the month of May so that you will have the chair prior to Memorial Day. As we shared in the award application, we ask you to plan a ceremony with local officials, park officials, and media so that we can present the chair to you and share the message of inclusion and accessibility.

We will no longer be conducting water sample tests after 8/16/23.  

*Results usually returned from the lab 2-5 days after sample date.  If any test fails, we will post signs at the beach immediately. 

Beaver Pond Facility Improvement Project
The Beaver Pond Facility Improvement project was completed.  We have added a grass practice field in the Spring 2023 and the grass is coming in nicely.  The lacrosse rebound wall, new Vendetti playground and the Obstacle Course for ages 13+ are open for use.  The obstacle course is designed for children and adults (ages 13+) and includes 12 obstacles that are fun, exciting and designed to keep children active.  How fast can you make it through the course and conquer the victory wall?
