Library News
The Franklin Public Library will be returning to regular hours as of June 1st. The thirty minute time restriction for visits will be removed. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Study rooms, the Friends of the Franklin Library Room, and restrooms will become available. The Meeting Room will continue to be unavailable at this time. Curbside Pickup will be phased out as the Library reverts back to using the shelves near the Circulation Desk for reserved materials. Items on the hold shelves will not be checked out, so please check them out using the self-check stations or through the Minuteman Library app.
Book Sale
Starting June 4th, the Franklin Public Library will be having an outdoor Book Sale on the brick patio Fridays 1:00-4:00 p.m. All books are one dollar each. There is no bag sale at this time. The Book Sale is weather permitting.

Summer Reading at the Franklin Public Library!
Summer Reading Sign-ups go Live on the Franklin Public Library Website beginning Monday, June 1st! Visit our Summer Reading Portal and sign up each of your children using our convenient google form!
The Portal will also contain:
• Our complete summer schedule
• Links to the school summer reading lists
• FAQs
• A google form to help us track your reading!
• Downloadable activities!
• And more!
Summer Reading Bags will be available for curbside pickup at 10AM beginning on June 1st! Call the Children’s Room when you arrive at the library, and we will help make sure you’re signed up/check you off our list, and bring your summer reading bags out to you! Inside the summer reading bags you’ll find everything you need to have an awesome summer with the library, including:
• Reading logs and stickers (and instructions) to track your reading progress!
• A jam packed event calendar to hang on the fridge!
• Special activity packets that correspond with each themed week of the summer!
• Fun surprises!
The Summer Reading Theme this year is: Tails and Tales, with a fun focus on Animals and Habitats, and we’ve got a great calendar of events that correspond with weekly themes, from Woodland story-walk romps and Savannah STEAM challenges, to Desert Animals and Under the sea ‘Seek-N-Finds’! We can’t wait to make this an epic summer!
Imagine Your Summer! A Virtual Creators Club is back on Facebook!
Do you like to draw? Write? Code? Cook? Knit? Make collages? We want to celebrate making in all its forms this summer! Join our Facebook Group, called Imagine Your Summer! (Available on the library Facebook Page in the groups tab!) We will be posting fun themed prompts each week to help inspire your creativity, but we are also REALLY excited to have a space for you to share any creative projects you're working on or have made! This group is meant to serve creators of all ages, kids and grown-ups alike! Let's make this a super fun summer! If you can imagine it, we want to see it!

Animal Guess Who! Monday-Friday
Join us all summer long for a fun guessing game of name that animal! Clues will be posted daily Monday-Friday, and at the end of each week all the correct guesses will be entered into a raffle!
Move Along! Mondays @ 10:30AM

June StoryWalk at DelCarte Park!
Starting Saturday, June 5th, the Franklin Recreation Department and the Franklin Public Library are teaming up again for a summer series of StoryWalks on the trail! The StoryWalk will be up until July, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the story, while social distancing!
Take & Make - Binoculars!
Starting Monday, June 7th stop by the library between 10:00am-8:00pm and call the children's room (508-520-4941 ext. 2) to pick up your very own binocular kit! Kits include supplies and instructions for making your very own binoculars! SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED! Kits will be distributed on a first come first serve basis!
Hodge Podge Hide & Seek! Friday, June 11th @ 4:00PM
Where on the Town Common is Mr. Vinny and his Giant Puppet Hodge Podge! Try to find them as we celebrate the kickoff of our Summer Reading Scavenger hunt, “Build Your Own Zoo”!

Mixed-Up Dog Drawing Class on Zoom! Wednesday, June 30th @ 1:00PM
Join the Pup up Art School for a lesson on how to draw at least four breeds of dogs. Then, cut the pictures in half to mix and match for maximum doggy cuteness!! All you need is a stack of paper in front of you and something you like to draw with!

Solve the puzzles to crack the code and "break-in" to your box of goodies! SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED! Break-In Boxes will be distributed on a first come first serve basis!
Evening in Riverdale June 8th @ 6:30 PM
Nancy Silberkleit, co-CEO of Archie Comics, shares some of the secret sauce on how the Riverdale Series has evolved from Archie Comics and why it has much of the same DNA. She will share some of the methodology of making a comic book and insight into being a publisher of Comics, and how she uses comics to further her passions! Teen Advisory Board: Wednesday, June 23rd @ 6:30PM
Join us each month for Teen Advisory Board! The Teen Advisory Board is a GREAT opportunity to get involved here at the library! You'll help plan events and programs, create displays and decorate the teen space, and help drive decisions around the kinds of materials we bring to the YA collection, from books and beyond, all while eating snacks and getting volunteer hours! It's a win-win-win!

Kitchen Table Art Workshops: Altered Book Box, Sunday, June 6, 4:00 p.m.
Beautifying Old Discarded Books - Altered Book Box, Registration deadline June 2.
We will hollow out a no longer used book so it is now a useful and fun box to hold your secrets and more! We will also explore ways to repurpose the remaining book sheets as art objects.
Presented on Zoom by Jacqueline Volpe, The Creativity Curator at jbvdesignstudio. You must sign up to be emailed the Zoom link. Kits providing materials and tools to be used in the workshop will be provided for the first 12 Franklin residents.
Shortly before the workshop, instructions to pick up your kit at the library and the zoom link will be emailed to you. Anyone who registers but does not receive a kit will be emailed a supply list to gather materials for the project and the zoom link.

Kitchen Table Art Workshops: Suminagashi, Sunday, June 27, 4:00 p.m.
The Art of Suminagashi – Japanese Marbling, Registration deadline June 11.
The art of Japanese marbling known as “floating or spilled ink” is a calm and focused meditative activity. Japanese marbling was practiced by Shinto priests as early as the 12th century. We will marble on paper. You are welcome to gather other objects to marble.

Kitchen Table Art Workshops (KTAW) are online open studios intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation in the safety of our homes while being socially and artistically connected online. We will take turns sharing our creations as we work together. Participants are asked to help create an atmosphere where we all feel open to exchange conversation and inspire each other’s individual freedom of expression. So - let’s say yes to our creativity by coming together online to make art! Sponsored by the Franklin Cultural Commission.
Take and Make Craft for Adults: 3D Papercraft
In a collaboration with the Franklin Mill Store, the Franklin Public Library is now offering Take-And-Make craft kits for adults! This month, welcome to the world of 3D papercraft! Each kit comes with pre-cut and pre-folded designs printed on sturdy paperstock. These 3D creations offer a thoughtful and gratifying activity for families or a group of friends. The end result is a space transforming decorative artwork. Kits come with all supplies needed. Kits are available to the first 50 Franklin residents to register, and will be placed in Curbside Pickup starting June 1st.
