The long-term vision of the 2025 A Wreath of Franklin is to grow into a town-wide tradition that encourages residents to shop local, support artists and makers, and celebrate Franklin’s creative community each holiday season. The program shows how small, collaborative pop-up ideas can create meaningful and lasting economic and community impact.
In 2025, the program came together through layered community coordination that brought creativity into every corner of downtown. Community members designed and installed wreaths in storefronts and public spaces, partner organizations hosted small pop-up activities throughout the district, and more than 20 local vendors joined a holiday arts market inside THE BLACK BOX. Together, these efforts transformed everyday shopping into a festive, walkable experience that encouraged visitors to spend more time downtown and explore multiple local businesses.
This strategy aligns with national research. Studies from Americans for the Arts show that arts and culture audiences spend additional money at nearby restaurants and retail shops, creative placemaking increases foot traffic and attracts cultural tourism.
By layering pop-up art, community programming, and a vendor market into one coordinated effort, Franklin created a more engaging retail environment that supports local businesses, draws visitors, and strengthens downtown as a vibrant cultural destination.
