Public Art + Wayfinding Franklin

In preparation of the upcoming international soccer games at Gillette Stadium; A public art earmark secured through the advocacy of Senator Rebecca Rausch enabled the Town of Franklin to fund more than 25 artists in FY25 to create interactive public art projects across the community, strengthening both neighborhood identity and artist opportunity.

The standout achievement was the new Franklin/Dean Train Station mural created by Franklin artist and resident Kayla Nisbet, which transformed a site that once felt forgotten into a renewed landmark celebrating Franklin’s layered history and shared future.

This momentum continues with a companion installation planned for the Dean Bank wall facing Depot Street this spring [a competitive process with an upcoming deadline for artists on March 15th] , creating a connected corridor of art that supports cultural tourism and long-term planning ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The mural’s imagery and color palette will also inform seasonal wayfinding signage installed later in the spring, helping visitors navigate downtown during a busy season of eleven community events beginning in June and launching with Franklin PorchFest.

Together, these projects show how coordinated public art investment can enhance local storytelling, guide visitors through town, and build excitement for both residents and guests as Franklin prepares to welcome the world.
