Children's Road Race

Franklin Town Common

What:  The Children’s Road Race is a fun 1.2 mile road race designed to let boys and girls ages 6-12 years old participate in running.  This road race has been a tradition for over 30 years, held on the Saturday that Franklin celebrates the 4th of July Celebration.  For years the Franklin Recreation Department has coordinated this event free of charge to all runners.

When:  This year the road race will take place on Saturday, July 1, 10am.  Registration for the event will begin at 8:45am-9:45am, and the race will kick off at 10:00 am.  Each year, this race is run on the Saturday during the 4th of July Celebration.

Where:  The registration will begin at 8:45am-9:45am at the center of the Town Common in front of the gazebo.  The participants will begin the race by meeting at the gazebo for a race orientation to review safety precautions, and race details.  We will then walk all the participants up to the corner of Crescent Street & Main Street next to the Verizon building.  Racers will run, walk, or jog up Crescent, take a right onto Martin Ave., right onto School Street, right onto Main Street.  At the St. Mary’s Church, participants will turn left and follow around the Common, take a left onto High Street, left at the corner of High Street & Main Street back down to the finish at the center of the Common.

Things to remember:  All runners should meet at 9:50 a.m. before the race at the gazebo to receive instructions on the race.  The Franklin Police will escort the entire road race.  Runners should follow behind Police vehicles.  Runners should stay off sidewalks and do not cut across private property to avoid disqualification from race.  Upon finishing the race, please give your bib attachment to the judge and go directly to the scorers table with your sticky label with your name & age on it.  Following the tally of results, (15-20 min. after race) wait to receive your participation ribbon and/or trophies. Results from this road race will be posted on our website and a press release will be sent to the Gazette and Milford Daily News
