Programs and Initiatives

The Department of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy works to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and connected community through a wide range of programs and initiatives. From public art installations and artist calls to creative economy partnerships and storytelling trails, our work supports both local creators and the well-being of Franklin residents.

These initiatives aim to make art accessible, elevate diverse voices, and harness the power of creativity to strengthen our town culturally, socially, and economically. Whether you're an artist, resident, or visitor, there’s something here for everyone to engage with and enjoy.

Creative Economy

The creative economy refers to the sector of the economy driven by individual creativity, talent, and innovation, encompassing industries such as visual and performing arts, design, digital media, crafts, and cultural tourism. These fields not only enrich a community’s cultural life but also generate economic value through job creation, small business development, and increased local spending.

Art Pharmacy Strengthening Franklin Through Arts

  • The Art Pharmacy program is a pioneering initiative by the Town of Franklin that integrates arts and cultural experiences into public health strategies to support mental health, substance use prevention, and community well-being. Launched in May 2025, Franklin became the first municipality in the United States to implement Arts Prescriptions, offering "prescriptions" for creative activities such as music, visual arts, dance, and theater as tools for healing and resilience .  Funded through the Town's opioid settlement funds, the program connects residents with transformative arts experiences to nurture mental health, reduce isolation, and restore a sense of community connection . By partnering with local cultural organizations and healthcare providers, Art Pharmacy offers accessible support for those in need, demonstrating Franklin's commitment to innovative, arts-based approaches to recovery and wellness.

Art on the Table | Volunteer Cultivation

"Art on the Table" is a quarterly series of free, hands-on art-making workshops designed to bring Franklin residents together through creativity and community spirit. Hosted by the Town of Franklin’s Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, this initiative combines table-top art practices with volunteer and community cultivation efforts. These events are more than just opportunities to make art—they’re about building connections, nurturing local talent, and inspiring civic engagement. Through shared creative experiences, participants develop skills, foster relationships, and strengthen the social fabric of Franklin. By bringing art to the table, we’re also bringing people together—with the goal of cultivating not only volunteers, but a more resilient, empathetic, and united community.
