Dementia & Alzheimer's

What to Do if You or a Loved One Have Been Diagnosed with Dementia

  • Talk to your Doctor: There are both medical and practical practices to help preserve brain function and alleviate the symptoms of dementia.
  • Learn about Dementia: There are many ways to preserve our quality of life. The more information you have, the more choices you will have. Scroll down to find a list of information available to you.
  • Find Support: A dementia diagnosis can feel overwhelming. There are resources, such as the Alzheimer's Association, and a community of people ready to help you on this journey. The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900) is a free service offering support for people living with dementia, caregivers, families, and the public. Connect with a live person who can provide information, local resources, crisis assistance, and emotional support.
  • Make a Plan: Dementia does not follow a straight path. Develop plans with family, medical professionals, estate planners, and social workers. Your local Senior Center is a great place to start!
