Library Hours

 

The Library’s hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday hours will resume on September 10th, 1:30 – 5:00.

Kanopy

Kanopy is a video streaming service that offers more than 30,000 films, including critically acclaimed movies, inspiring documentaries, award winning foreign films and more! This database includes a specially curated collection for children called “Kanopy Kids” with parental control options. “Kanopy Kids” content is unlimited, and plays don't county against Adult viewing credits. Franklin Library ESL & Adult Literacy Program

 

Volunteer tutors needed! To volunteer please be at least 18 years old, have a High School diploma, & speak English clearly.  No prior teaching experience needed!  Volunteer tutors and students do not need to be Franklin residents. If interested, please fill out the registration form on the library’s website.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Library’s 2023 summer reading programs - we hope you had the opportunity to enjoy many new books! The Friends were delighted to support this year’s summer reading programs by sponsoring some of the awesome raffle prizes that program participants had the chance to win.

 

Will you be at the 20th Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 30th? The Friends will be there and we hope you’ll stop by our booth to say “Hello!” and pick out a FREE “new to you” book. We will be giving away children’s, teen, and adult books while supplies last. We look forward to seeing you there!

Move Along! Mondays @ 10:30 AM (Ages 0-5)

This thirty-minute program features music, movement, stories, and other interactive activities to encourage social skills and promote early literacy!

 

Dungeons and Dragons Club for Kids & Teens! Mondays @ 4:00-6:00 PM (Ages 7+)

Kids are invited to join us for a weekly Dungeons and Dragons Club! The library will supply dice, rule books, and blank character sheets! (Dungeon Masters must be ages 12 and up)

Babies who have graduated from tummy time and are scooting all over the place are welcome to this playgroup just for them! We recognize that fun age of exploring is very different from their first few months, so join us for a special playgroup just for this exciting time!

Kids Paint Party! Saturday, September 9th @ 1:00 PM

For kids ages 5-11! Join local instructor Denise Palmieri for this step-by-step paint party specifically for kids! All materials will be provided and you'll get to take home your very own puppies & pumpkins themed masterpiece! REGISTRATION REQUIRED!! The same painting will be taught in Sept., Oct., and Nov. - please only register for 1 date.

 

Baby Sensory! Saturday, September 16th @ 9:30 AM

Join us for a 45-minute baby sensory program! Watch your little one interact and engage with a variety of sensory items! Sensory play is a fantastic way to help babies explore their worlds, stimulate the senses, and create little inquisitive explorers! Babies under 2 are welcome and encouraged! (Got older siblings? They can bring along a stuffed toy or baby and play along!)

 

Doggie Tales! Monday, September 18th @ 4:00 PM (1st grade +)

Robo-Racer Workshop Saturday, September 16th @ 10:00 AM

Registration Required.

Inviting middle schoolers with a passion for building and tinkering!

Have you always loved building with LEGO Technic? Are you ready to take the leap and build without instructions? Are you ready for a challenge and can work with a team? Then this Robo-Racer workshop is for you. Come join us for a 90 min. build challenge and experience engineering in a nutshell.

Participants will be grouped in teams of 3-4, Hub, motors and LEGO Technic parts will be provided.

ALARM Robotics will be conducting the Robo-Racer workshop; ALARM Robotics is a Franklin based high school robotics team.

Wildlife Photography Workshop at Southwick's Zoo, September 23rd @ 10:00 AM

Registration Required! Zoo admission is NOT included with this program. Discounted admission is available at the Circulation Desk!

 

Join Nature Photographer Steve McGrath on a Wildlife Photography Workshop at Southwick's Zoo. There you will learn how to use your preferred digital camera like a pro and improve your wildlife photographic technique. Understand the settings of your camera and what you need to compose a professional looking photograph.

 

You'll have the opportunity to practice what you've learned out in the Southwick’s Zoo with Steve on hand to give you tips.  With so many great photographic opportunities and challenges at the Southwick’s Zoo, you'll have plenty of pictures and new skills to take home!

 

In this First Class there will be a short presentation at Southwick's were we will discuss tips and techniques for getting great zoo photographs that look like they were taken in the wild! Then off to the Zoo to Photograph for the day, make sure you bring the longest lens you have. There will also be opportunities to photograph at feeding times and special zoo keeper sessions were we will be able to photograph close up!

 

There will be a second class at the Library in October, where we will view our Images and Critique them for a show and tell! With an opportunity to show your best work!

Come join us for a free and exciting afternoon at the Franklin Public Library for Franklin Health Departments Restaurant Expo from 2PM-5PM on Wednesday September 27th, 2023!  The event will include live tastings, food and beverage vendors, local products and services, and the ability to network with experienced professionals!

 

Genealogy Club, September 28th @ 6:30 PM
Googling your genealogy presented by Dr. Adina Newman.  Google is more than just a search engine! This presentation will focus on the myriad of Google products that can assist in your genealogy. Come away with new ideas or a fresh perspective on how to use Google to benefit your research. This program is free and open to anyone interested in genealogy.
