What is C0de C1ub?

Code Club is an hour of code where: 1.) A concept is introduced 2.) A project prompt is provided 3.) Participants then choose to work on the prompt or their own personal projects!

When is C0de C1ub?

Code Club meets Tuesdays after school at 4:00 PM and runs until 5:00 PM.

Is there registration or a fee?

Code Club is free and open to any child in 3rd - 8th grade. There is a sign up list, but this is for parent/ guardian contact information and to give us an idea of the current number of participants to expect and how many we need to make technology available for. There is room for everyone and each meeting is a single concept and will be repeated at some point. There is no need to attend every single club meeting (but a heads up would be nice!)

Concepts, Prompts, & Projects?

The first 15 minutes of Code Club introduces a concept central to coding and then provides 45 minutes to work on a prompt related to that concept. As an example; the concept is variables. The prompt may be 'create at least one of each type of variable. Then use them in a game or animation about your favorite animal.'
For more advanced participants, the whole of the hour can be used to work on a personal project.

Is this a class?

This is not formal instruction in computer science. This is an hour to play with concepts around computer science! I am not looking over shoulders and forcing focus. This is a time to feel the fun and excitement around computer science.

Do you use any tools or websites I should be aware of?

We currently use the free tools available from: Scratch.mit.edu, code.org, tinkercad.com, replit.com, & appinventor.mit.edu. Having a set of log in credentials for these platforms can make it easier to save progress and follow passions and excitement outside of the club time, but is not required.
