Library Circulation Policy

Library Cards: Any resident of Massachusetts may be issued a Minuteman card. Proof of address is required. Residents of towns within the Minuteman network and Dean College students should get their card from their home library. Library cards are free. Replacement cards are $2.00.

Loan Periods: Books, audiobooks/CDs, and games may be checked out for two weeks. Magazines, speed reads, videocassettes and dvds may be checked out for one week.  Literacy items check out for three weeks.  Museum passes check out for one day.

Renewals: Items may be renewed either by telephone, at the library or through the "My Account" feature of the Web catalog. If renewing by phone, please have your card number and item information ready. If renewing over the Web, you will need a PIN number in addition to your library card number. Sign up for a PIN at any circulation desk in the Minuteman network, or through the "My Account" feature of the Minuteman Catalog.  Books, audiotapes, books on CD, and literacy items may be renewed 3 times if there is no request pending.  Videos, DVDs, magazines, and games may by renewed 2 times if there is no request pending.  Museum passes may not be renewed.

Inter-Library Loan: Franklin residents may reserve items from the Franklin Library and from other libraries to be delivered to the Franklin Library for pickup. Reserves can be made either from home or in the library via the Web catalog. If reserving over the Web, a PIN is required. Sign up for a PIN at any circulation desk in the Minuteman network, or through the "My Account" feature of the Minuteman Catalog. Patrons are notified when the item has arrived either by phone or via email. Sign up for email notification at any circulation desk in the Minuteman network. Reference items are non-circulating and may not be requested.

Overdue Fines: Books, audiotapes, and books on CD are assessed a five cent fine up to a maximum of one dollar after a 3 day grace period. Videos, DVDs, magazines, and games are assessed twenty-five cents per day up to a maximum of five dollars. Museum passes are assessed a fine of $10.00 per day with a maximum of $20.00 on non-disposable passes. There is no grace period on Musuem passes.  There are no fines attached to literacy items.

Self Check: Currently, there are two self-check stations on the first level and one on the second level of the library.

Returning Items:  Please return all items to the Circulation Desk on the first level of the library. After operating hours, please return items to the blue return bins outside the School Street entrance. Books and Media returns are located at the School Street entrance and are open when the library is closed.
